Thrifty Tuesday…

Tonight, I decided to try making my own liquid fabric softener.  I had two recipes given to me and so I combined them together!  This recipe will make exactly enough to fit in to a 60 oz bottler (or bigger).  To combine this all together, I used a big mixing bowl or if you have a bucket, that would work too.

Here are the ingredients:
1 15-16 oz. bottle cheap hair conditioner
4 cups water
3 cups vinegar
1 cup baking soda

First Step:  1 Cup Baking Soda and 1 Cup HOT Water
Mix the two together, but don’t worry about dissolving the soda into the water just yet.

Second Step:  Add 3 cups vinegar
Do this in 1/2 cup increments because it will “fizz” when the vinegar mixes with the baking soda. The goal is to dissolve the soda.  Continue to stir through this whole step.

Third Step:  Add 3 cups water
I boiled the water before adding to further disolve the baking soda.

Fourth Step:  Add the hair conditioner
I was told that “ocean” scents smell the best for softener.  At any rate, you can either add it to the bowl mixture or you can also add it to the bottle after you have everything poured in.  Your choice here.  Stir real good and voila, your fabric softener is complete!

Fifth Step:  Carefully pour into container.
Use 1/2 cup to 1 cup per load, depending on how much you prefer.
